Concierge.com's insider take:

Shaded by centennial gomero and tipu trees, and well situated between the Vatican's palatial embassy and the Addams Family–style Residencia Maguire, Park Hyatt's Palacio Duhau has made a splash since opening in June 2006. Divided between a restored Belle Époque mansion and a contemporary addition (museum-quality art, renewed every 45 days, is displayed in an underground walkway connecting the two buildings), the hotel's paneled corridors and light-filled lounges ooze discreet wealth. There's marble aplenty if you look for it, but the emphasis is on classic materials and clean lines, with low-slung leather furniture, frosted-glass lamps, and pale wood tempering the mansion's ornate original plasterwork. It's difficult to fault the 500-label wine library, the on-site cheese store, and a bar with 17th-century oak (the Duhau family's former safe now houses the bar's collection of cognac and cigars), nor the soothing air of the gym and spa, with a phalanx of attendants, myriad treatment suites, and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

From the readers of Condé Nast Traveler:
The French palace, once home to local aristocracy, and the modern building are connected by an underground art gallery. Dine alfresco on the terrace of the 47,000-square-foot garden, "a pleasant oasis amid the bustle of the city." Whiskey and cognac are specialties of the Oak Bar. Guest rooms have wooden floors, cream-hued fabrics, and crystal chandeliers.

From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:

Like its name, the Palacio Duhau—Park Hyatt harbors dual identities. The Palacio is a restored 1934 neoclassic mansion, its original marble floors, wood paneling, and teardrop chandeliers gleaming from refurbishment. The 23 rooms offer a stylish balance between new and old: French windows and wedding-cake molding harmonize with sleek platform beds, flat-screen TVs, and rain showers. Behind the Palacio is a sunny terrace and a garden that links it to a new 17-story tower on Calle Posadas, where the 142 spacious, minimalist rooms are all right angles and pale oak. The service in the Palacio is friendly and prompt; in the tower, it can be friendly but ineffectual (after four calls about a faulty thermostat, the problem wasn't fixed). The posh Avenida Alvear area in recent years has become stuffy, but the hotel's Oak Bar, vinoteca, and garden lounge are tempting the city's glam set back to the neighborhood.
