Romantic Desde el Alma ("from the soul") occupies a quiet corner in Palermo Viejo that's apparently reserved for love-struck couples. Lamp-lit tables, rustic-chic bric-a-brac, and a fireplace surrounded by welcoming couches create the intimate, laid-back vibe of a porteño country house. The deliciously homey feel extends to chef Lucio Cantini's updated interpretations of Argentine comfort food, including the obligatory steak and juicy lamb dishes. Cantini's menu also contains a few welcome surprises: It's not easy to find good fish outside of a sushi roll in B.A., but Desde el Alma serves a variety of seafood dishes, like beet blini with salmon and dill, and buttery sole served with savory vegetable Knödels. The menu is moderately priced for B.A. (but is incredibly cheap by U.S. standards), as is the well-curated wine list, which is packed with quality Argentine and Chilean bottles. Bring your sweetheart, or you'll miss half of this place's considerable charm.
