Concierge.com's insider take:
Formerly known as the Heritage Inn, the Hume Hotel is a restored turn-of-the-century set piece, complete with hardwood floors, cavernous leather armchairs, and beds so deep and comfortable you could disappear into them. This landmark first opened its doors in 1898, and thanks to a consistently hospitable staff, it remains a favorite hangout for visitors and locals alike. There are 43 rooms and one suite, which has a full kitchen, living room, and dining room. Nelson's college-age contingent flocks to the in-house Mike's Place Pub—a three-tiered British-style pub with flat-screen TVs, pool tables, and a collection of local memorabilia to rival any Bennigan's. Guests wind down at the refined Library Lounge, where a roaring fire and ornately carved oak bar channel the hotel's Victorian roots.
