Cayman Islands shopping
Most of Grand Cayman's retail shops are clustered around tiny George Town harbor, all the better to snare cruise-ship passengers looking for duty-free jewelry, cameras, and porcelain. But wander just off the waterfront and you'll find quirky places like The Penny Black, the only store in the Caribbean dedicated to stamp collecting, or Walk Good, the island's purveyor of Brazilian Havaiana flip-flops. And it's quite possible to avoid mass-produced souvenirs; galleries such as Pure Art and Bodden Town Art Shop are committed to local artists and artisanal products. Aside from resort or museum gift shops, there are virtually no retail options on either Cayman Brac or Little Cayman. Stores in the Cayman Islands are closed on Sundays.—Christopher Cox
