WHEN TO GO
Cilento's season runs from Easter to October. High summer is the best time to explore the coastline and enjoy the beaches and bays. The best month to visit is July.
HOW TO GET THERE
The nearest airports are Naples-Capodichino International Airport and Lamezia Terme Airport, both of which are more than two hours away by car. American Airlines, British Airways, and Alitalia offer flights with connections in London and Rome. A new public airport is being developed in nearby Scalea, but currently, only private jets may land there.

GETTING AROUND
Since driving in Naples is not for the faint of heart, it is recommended that visitors take the train from the airport to Salerno before renting a car. Car rental offices, such as Auto Europe (888/223-5555, www.autoeurope.com), are are located near the Salerno train station. Keep in mind that most cars have manual transmissionsso be prepared to pay extra for an automatic, if necessary.
