Costa Rica hotels
Costa Rica isn't about roughing it—unless that's your thing, in which case you'll find plenty of budget options, from simple cabinas to backpacker and surfer hostels. For the more luxury-minded, there's an ever-increasing number of high-end resorts such as the Four Seasons, boutique hotels such as Florblanca, and remote eco-lodges such as Lapa Rios. Many hotels emphasize environmental sustainability (the Costa Rican Tourism Board awards hotels up to five green leaves according to their level of eco-friendliness). Most hotels have their share of niceties, including hot tubs, plunge pools, and private terraces with views over mountain valleys, rainforests, or the tropical coast. What you might not find are TVs, telephones, and Internet connections: The point here is getting unplugged, after all. Book far in advance, especially if you're planning to visit in the high season, from Christmas to Easter. To figure out which regions to focus on, see our Fact Sheet.
