Abandon all notions of cosmopolitan cool, loosen a few extra shirt buttons, and you'll fit right into Côte d'Azur nightlife. It's worth remembering, however, that the whole coast is a family-oriented destination these days, which means that a limited number of establishments cater to the night owls. This is also France, where standard bar cafés close well before midnight, though clubs go until 5. Temper expectations accordingly. The clubbing and table-dancing happen largely in Cannes, especially in the knot of streets south of the Rue d'Antibes, though it's a pale imitation of the Champagne-spraying debauchery down the coast at St. Tropez. A more civilized evening might involve an apéritif taken at the bar of one of the grand hotels that line the seafront in Cannes, like the Martinez or the Carlton. It's rare to find a bar that stays open past 11 (Mori's in Nice is a convenient exception to that rule). Everyone who is still out is at the clubs by then anyway—where you can expect a cover charge and exorbitant drink prices. There is always the option of hitting one of the coast's many casinos, but those expecting Vegas-style grandeur will be disappointed: Unless you are in Monte Carlo, the gaming floors are relatively small and the decor is more reminiscent of a cineplex than a rococo pleasure hall.
