Picasso met his maker in this gorgeous hillside village-perché about 15 minutes from Cannes. Amazingly, the town contains precious little Picasso-related kitsch, a rare instance of restraint along the coast. The Moulin de Mougins, both a hotel and a two Michelin star restaurant—where Alain Ducasse once toiled—is a major gastronomic draw. The town square offers an array of surprisingly good touristy restaurants and art galleries, surrounded by a series of narrow, circular residential streets.
