Cozumel restaurants
Sandals and shirts are about the only dress requirement in Cozumel's casual restaurants, but you can still don a sexy sundress without feeling overdone. The island remains nearly franchise-free, though the second-story McDonald's on the waterfront is wildly popular. Americanized fare abounds, and you can easily find a standard bacon and egg breakfast or barbecued ribs—often on the same menu as huevos rancheros and tacos. Look for more exciting regional Yucatecan dishes at La Choza, a sampling of fresh local seafood at La Conchita del Caribe, and outstanding Mexican mole (and a delightful cilantro soup) at Pancho's Backyard. Chefs are importing more ingredients, such as the thick Angus steaks that satisfy carnivores at the Wynston, and are starting to take their wine lists more seriously (oenophiles should be sure to check out the classy La Cocay). However, when it really comes down to it, dining in Cozumel is relatively uncomplicated and satisfying, as befits the island lifestyle.
