How often can you find a ten-course tasting menu with wine pairings for around $100? Although a prix-fixe menu is available, the real star at Lola is dinner in "The Tasting Room." The menu changes daily, but past highlights have included Winterpoint oysters with green apple, and a texturally perfect seared foie gras with fried gnocchi. But the wine list is what's truly jaw-dropping. Virtually no markup exists on the pages upon pages of wines, complete with vintages dating back more than 20 years, like a 1989 Rudolf Mueller Trockenbeernauslese (one of the most prestigious German wines) at right around auction price. Another plus is the fact that obscure regions are represented well, so it's a good chance to experiment a little. It's hard to go wrong, as the wines on the list are all so carefully chosen. The dining room is elegant without being stuffyan apt description of the food as well. Don't let the haute-foodie appeal scare you: Everything here is approachable.
