Nostromo Restaurant, Split
Trap in Split

Having built its reputation given the proximity of Split's fish market, Nostromo is my worst gastronomic experience in years by a country mile. My wife and I selected this restaurant for our wedding anniversary by looking at the reviews available on the web. The fish is definitively fresh but all pros end from this point onwards. Although it was a Monday and the place was not full, we were invited for a table in front of the kitchen, witnessing the morbid appearance of the chef cooking an unflavored, unseasoned "first-class" fish 400 Hrk (nearly €60) worth for two. We choose a side of vegetables and mushrooms, that came cold, pale and unattractive to our table. The hugely pricey Croatian wine, only average, deserves a dedicated chapter and it is the only thing Nostromo cannot be blamed alone. The waiter was the most unfriendly I have ever seen in my life. At a certain point we tried not to spoil our night and joked about the whole situation, including the ludicrous visit of a dog into the kitchen. Finally, a total bill of 940 Hrk, to be paid only in cash.
