My husband and I are currently, January 2011, staying at the Sivory Hotel and we are outraged.
- UNJUSTIFIABLY EXPENSIVE FOOD AND PATHETIC SERVICE:
The EX-clusive restaurants that are mentioned above are unreasonably EX-pensive for the quality of the food and amateur service that they provide.
Example: 70 USD at the pool-side bar/restaurant, for a very mediocre dinner, including a cold tomato soup, red snapper with mashed potatoes, a fruit salad, a local beer ($8), a 1/2 liter bottle of water ($5), a coffee ($5) and a 10% tip + 16% tax surcharge.
For 2 people, you will be paying an absolute minimum of $150-$200 per day for food alone, that is if you didn't select the all-inclusive plan that is $150 per person, per day (+26% surcharge). Cocktails here are $11 + 26%. Orange juice is $8 + 26%.
The service staff, despite being extremely friendly, are forgetful, inefficient, aloof and incompetent, but great at apologies.
- ISOLATED LOCATION:
The hotel is located in a remote and isolated area, therefore forcing you to spend your money on their food - there are no other food options. Taxi's are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive up to $89 to take you to the closest city, Bavaro.
- AVERAGE BEACH AND POOL:
The beach is not a white sandy beach with clear water. The waves are large and the currents strong at this time of the year. It is very windy and therefore not all that warm even when there is not a cloud in sight.
The pool is small and very average - not a lap pool.
The rooms are nice, but nothing that you wouldn't find elsewhere for a quarter of the price.
In conclusion, this hotel leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, literally, and you feel utterly exploited as a tourist. Go spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
