Dresden can be experienced completely on foot if you're in the right end of town. The Altstadt, or Old Town, on the southern bank of the Elbe River, has the Kempinski Taschenberg Palais, Dresden's grandest guesthouse (if a trifle too cookie-cutter in its luxury fittings). The new hotel QF sits right by the Frauenkirche and is a stylish bargain. Across the river, the inner Neustadt, or New Town, is beautiful and compact and features the intimate Bülow Residenz, but it can be a bit of a walk for taking in Dresden's sights.
