Most of the city's shopping, including the usual Italian brand-name boutiques, is centered in the Neustadt around Königstrasse and in the Altstadt in the Quartier Frauenkirche, a high-end mall right next to the church of the same name. The Volkswagen Phaeton and Bentley Continental are also made here, though they may not qualify as impulse purchases for most people. European porcelain was invented 20 miles west of Dresden in the town of Meissen in the early 18th century, and Dresden remains a good place to buy it. Luxury watchmaking competitive with the best of Geneva was also a major industry, with A. Lange & Söhne predominating. Today, its gorgeous (and expensive) watches are still a local source of pride.
