The newest and perhaps most stylish of the Fiji private-island resorts, this collection of 16 villas nestled in lush vegetation on the side of a hill is both native and sleek. Interiors have mahogany floors, sea-grass ceilings, and recessed lighting worthy of a restaurant in New York's SoHo. You get your choice of staying connected (there are phones and data ports on the desks) or dropping out: every villa has an infinity pool overlooking the sapphire lagoon, and the island itself, thick with vegetation, sits on a living reef. The food is sophisticated Pacific Rim, with local ingredients and artful presentation. The place brings downtown chic to the South Pacific (and even provides a specific package for couples sneaking away to elope).
