view web site ›'s insider take:

At most resorts, children are tolerated (albeit sometimes barely). Here, they're celebrated, with an array of activities at the Bula Club designed specifically to teach them about the ecosystem and keep them busy swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and visiting the nearby village. Parents also love that the resort assigns all children to nannies, a ratio of 1 to every 5 kids over the age of five, and one on one for younger children. But you don't have to have kids to love it here, particularly if you like to dive. The resort is located close to several spectacular dive sites, including the coral reefs surrounding Namena Island, which Jean-Michel rated as one of the ten best in the world. There's a full-time marine biologist to explain the undersea life on complimentary guided tours several times a week. Back on land, the 25 bures scattered around the 17-acre former coconut plantation are decorated in childlike primary colors of orange and blue, and range from basic, not air-conditioned, and relatively small (440 square feet) to the prime accommodation opened in 2004, the villas on Point Reef (where we saw Jodie Foster in residence). These 2,000-square-foot bungalows are removed from the rest of the resort and have big decks, private pools, A/C, and cool, understated interiors. Even though there is an adults-only pool and restaurant, you'll hear the laughter and little voices of children everywhere. If thats a turn-off, plan your trip sometime other than summer or over the holidays.

Appeared in the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, a directory of the world's best hotels and resorts, in 2006
