Opened in November 2008, multitasking Quantobasta is a good-looking new arrival in the San Lorenzo area that serves as a deli, quick lunch stop, wine bar, and formal restaurant. Those who know 'Gusto in Rome will be familiar with the formula; Quantobasta's decor is blue-collar, like a butcher's shop that has had a design makeover. Based on organic ingredients, the evening restaurant menu is Italian with macrobiotic and Asian influences, taking in dishes like fried angler fish fillets in a sauce of curried almond milk and clams, or chickpea pasta served in a spicy sauce of herbs and coconut milk. There's also a simpler lunchtime buffet; another option is the wine bar section, which offers bruschetta, cheese and salami platters, salads, and pizzeria-style fried starters alongside a Tuscan-loaded selection of over 400 wines. Quantobasta makes a refreshing change from the standard Florentine osteria, and its proximity to the station makes it a good option if you've trained into town around mealtime.
