In Fort Lauderale beginning in the town Lauderdalebythesea just five miles south there is an artificial reef that runs almost to Miami. It is located about 200 yards out, which is a pretty good swim, but it is worth it. You will see lots of people snorkeling as well as diving right off the shore. My last trip I saw more than 20 different species of bright, beautiful fish darting in and out of the reef. I was not expecting to see so much and was pleasantly surprised. There are several places in town to rent snorkel gear from for a day to a week. The farther you go inland the cheaper the prices will be. Don't forget your underwater camera! report a problem
