The 30-suite Calabash is Grenada's true Grand Dame, an island institution dating to its earliest days (in the 1960s) as a retreat for the British elite. Today, the hotel has been renovated and modernized, but it retains its aristocratic charm. Set back from the beach among tropical gardens, suites are divided among ten buildings arranged in a horseshoe configuration. On the beach itself is a bar and a fully certified diving center, and Michelin-starred chef Gary Rhodes has opened an eponymous restaurant on site. Forest walks, whale-watching, and nutmeg-production tours can be arranged by the hotel.
