WHEN TO GO
Florida's Gulf Islands are relatively rainy in summer. They are at their best in spring, when the weather is warm, with little precipitation and moderate humidity. March is the ideal month to visit.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Gulf Islands are located on Florida's west coast, just south of Tampa Bay. Road-trippers can access the area via I-75 and I-275it's about an hour south of Tampa and an hour and a half west of Orlando. The closest airports, Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), are serviced by most major airlines and rental car companies.
GETTING AROUND
Rental cars make it easy to navigate these islands. Also, some hotels offer free bike rentals so that guests can check out the region on two wheels.
