Concierge.com's insider take:
One of the few Hanoi hotels to live up to its boutique billing, this 26-room property appeals to independent travelers seeking style and location on a moderate budget. There's hardly a need for taxis, as Hoan Kiem Lake is barely a five-minute walk to the east while the neighbors along one-block-long Nha Tho Street operate some of Hanoi's best restaurants, cafés, and shops. The rooms are on the small side, and the aesthetic is almost monkishhardwood floors; thick drapes; art-free, eggshell-white walls; mission-style furniturebut leavened with modern conveniences like AC and Internet access. The seventh floor has a small terrace, but the best views are to be had from the eighth-floor suite, where $70 buys you vistas of Hoan Kiem Lake and, to the west, the neo-Gothic St. Joseph Cathedral, consecrated in 1886. The front desk can arrange tours to any site in Hanoi, as well as organize onward transport or reservations. The hotel is extremely popular, so book well in advance.
