Restaurants in Oahu—concentrated in Honolulu and Waikiki—offer a dizzying array of options. You could spend an entire week just eating your way through the Ala Moana Shopping Center, which houses Rokkaku and Tsujiki Fish Market, a grand sushi buffet inspired by the famous Tokyo fish market. Hawaii's celebrity chefs all have their showplaces on the island, including Alan Wong's, Chef Mavro and DK (Kodama)'s Steakhouse, many of them exemplars of "Hawaii regional cuisine," which favors gussied-up versions of favorite local dishes. To sample the flavors that inspire them (for a quarter of the price), seek out Side Street Inn or Me's Bar-B-Que, both low on ambiance but high on value. If you're looking for oceanfront romance, the restaurants in Oahu's top hotels—the Halekulani, the Kahala Resort, and the Turtle Bay Resort—are sure bets.
