Concierge.com's insider take:
The ABC hit TV series Lost is the latest Hollywood production to call Oahu home (previous generations may fondly remember Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O). Before the public had ever heard of the creepy sci-fi series, Lost set up production on the North Shore near Kaena Point, a Hawaiian sacred site where the souls of the dead are said to depart for the afterlife—and scared the bejesus out of some unsuspecting locals with the life-size fuselage of what appeared to be a real crashed plane. Outdoor scenes for the first season were filmed on location at Mokuleia Beach, but several Emmys later, the show's popularity and rabid fans forced the production indoors to the Hawaii Film Studio at Diamond Head Studios (18th Avenue and Diamond Head Road). The fan website www.lostinoahu.com has more information about the show's locations. For a more detailed history of film and television production in Hawaii, see the Hawaii Film Office website, www.hawaiifilmoffice.com.
