Concierge.com's insider take:
Longtime favorite of New York City's Meatpacking District, the Spice Market has now shot straight into the nucleus of Istanbul's fine dining scene, with a Silk Roadinspired menu that combines a mixture of tastes from Turkey to China and as far as Japan. Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is the talent behind the eclectic dishes on offer, from local specialties like charred eggplantstuffed manti (traditional dumplings) served in chile-spiked yogurt to grilled lamb satay with pickled vegetables, and Thai-style shrimp cakes accompanied by a cucumber and peanut relish. All dishes are served family-style, meaning that they come out one by one and you're expected to share the wealth with your companions. Highlights among the main courses are the roasted lagos (rock grouper) with Malaysian chile sauce; and the lobster steamed with butter, fried garlic, ginger, and dried chiles. Reservations are essential at this relatively small but very popular restaurant located inside the new W Hotel, and whether you decide on lunch or dinner, the menu stays the same.
Open daily noon to 11:30 pm.
