One of Istanbul's most successful design chains, Mudo started life in the 1960s as a small gift shop selling records and hand-painted T-shirts. The hippie days are long gone, however, and 40 years later the company has stores all around the city from Nişantaşı (149 Teşvikiye Caddesi; 90-212-225-2941) to the Akmerkez mall, to a large shop in Maslak and a retail outlet in Kadıköy on the Asian side. The merchandise consists mostly of signature furniture and clothing at prices far more reasonable than their imported equivalents—kind of a Crate and Barrel meets Banana Republic with a more decorative Turkish edge.
