My annual treat to myself is a trip to Negril,Jamaica. I go every Veteran's Day holiday. Great Weather! Hurricaine season is over, and it's still low season regarding hotel pricing. My first two times in Jamaica I stayed at an all-inclusive resort. I thought it was the BEST... until I went off of the beaten path! Now I stay at a family owned beach front resort. The cost of my stay is cut in HALF! I eat at the local "authentic" restaurants and I have never paid more than $10 US dollars for ANY meal. I feel VERY safe because it's like a family environment where not just the security guard watches after you, everyone from the front desk clerk to the gardner and "pool guy" watches out for you! They have referred the BEST horse back riding, jet ski, and waterfall excersions. AND it's cheaper because they don't charge you the "conceirge" surcharge that the all inclusive hotels do. You can depend on having fun, like they have fun, because they're not paid by the "big tourist companies" to persuade you to visit their high-priced attractions, they tell you to go where they know you'll have fun, and NOT spend all of your vacation money! We were even "escorted" to a local nightclub and they introduced us to the workers/owners so that everyone would keep a "watchful" eye on us, help us help us enjoy the festivities (line dancing, limbo, etc) or give us needed assistance of any kind. Unlike on the all- inclusive resorts, certain taxi companies and certain tour groups were NOT allowed on the property. What? We were even told that we HAD to use the hotel conceierge to make arrangements for activities or we wouldn't be allowed to partake in the festivities! Go Figure! You weren't even allowed on an all-inclusive property if you didn't stay there! And funny thing is, my first time there was for my friend's wedding. She stayed at a 5 star (all adult) all-inclusive hotel, while she made arrangements for the bridal party to stay next door at the 4 star (family) all-inclusive hotel. WE HAD TO PAY JUST TO GET ON THE PROPERTY FOR THE WEDDING THAT WE WERE PART OF!!! With all that being said, Negril Jaimaica is by far, the best place to go! You can rest and relax. You can enjoy water sports and beach parties. You can do absolutely nothing and no one will bother you if you just want to sit on the beach all day. It's definitely a product of their slogan "Don't worry be happy!". report a problem
