Most Japanese or expats know that the Japanese bank's ATM machines are one of the few in the world that is not connected to the Star/Plus or any other "foreign" networks and everyone scrambles to either have cash or traveller's cheques on hand when travelling to Japan. What few don't know is that the Japan Post cash machines accept all debit/credit cards from around th world. The cash machines are also accessible 24/7 (even if the post office is closed) So no more scrambling to find the nearest Citibank ATM which is open. The exchange rate is the posted exchange rate of the day and is usually much cheaper than any that you can get from a bank exchange kiosk. report a problemPosted on: September 09, 2009 at 9:12PM
I just spent seven months in Japan. ATM's are so hard to find indeed. Your best bet is not the post office because they are too few and far between. 7-11's are everywhere and you can always get cash there. Only 7-11's though. Lawson a chain like 7-11 does not work the same, you cannot get cash at those ATM's.Posted on: September 07, 2009 at 3:27PM
How difficult is it to locate a Japan Post machine?
