Gora Kadan is a slice of heaven on earth. I have been there twice and to sit in the hot springs in the privacy of your room is breathtaking and out of this world. Service and atmosphere at Gora Kadan is beautifully Japanese. Even though there are modern conveniences in parts of the Ryokan, it is still essentially very zen. The rooms are beautifully outfitted in traditional Japanese with sleeping on futons and traditional bathrooms are wonderful, but I cannot emphasise how relaxing and wonderful it is to sit in the hot spring on a cold day and revel in the peace. You just might not want to leave. Hakone and the area are beautiful as well.. quiet. Very cute tram/railway...and the trip on the ship across Lake Ashi great. There is also a great walk through the woods from where the boat docks back to Hakone that is wonderful too... Too many great memories of a wonderful place to visit.
