Gather up friends or family and rent a two or three bedroom cottage 500 yards off Key West, Florida. The Sunset Keys Guest Cottages is a Westin Resort. They are on a 27 acre secluded island that is in a residential area and offers boat transportation on a regular basis to Key West. They have the only real private beach in the area, so it won't be crowded. Day passes can be bought on Key West at The Key West Resort and Marina at $20 per person, if you are not staying at the cottages. The number of people allowed on the beach is limited. Since Key West is normally rock beaches instead of sand, the resort imports their sand from the Bahamas. They have a limited number of oceanfront cottages, but on rows 2 and 3, it's just a short walk to the beach. The only other sand beaches in Key West is Smathers, the public beach or at Fort Zachary, there is another public beach. Being on the island is as close to being in the Carribean as you can get without needing a passport. Since there are only 37 cottages on one corner of the island, it books up fast, so plan well in advance. report a problem
