Loire Valley hotels
In much of the Loire Valley, tourist attractions and hotels are one and the same. Instead of just visiting a château, you can make like the aristocrats that once occupied them (or might still) and stay the night. Most of these places (many affiliated with Relais & Châteaux or Small Luxury Hotels of the World) put the emphasis on the country-house lifestyle, with grandiose salons, period decor, classic formal restaurants, and acres of parkland. However, there are also several private châteaux offering upmarket B&B-style accommodations, where your hosts may well be the count and countess themselves. If you're looking for stylish boutique lodgings, you'll have more luck in one of the area's pleasant small towns or villages. Accommodations in the Loire Valley are generally very reasonably priced for western Europe, though room sizes—and rates—can vary widely within a hotel.
