Martha's Vineyard nightlife
Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are the only towns on Martha's Vineyard where alcohol can be served (and while that might make Edgartown seem progressive, it's worth noting that it bans outdoor amplified music). The most recent referendum to allow alcohol sales in Vineyard Haven was defeated by just four votes, though most restaurants in the so-called dry towns let you bring your own and will provide setups or even mix a drink for you. Even though Vineyard Haven is a dry town, there is a nightlife venue: Che's Lounge, a coffee bar run by the owners of the Scottish Bakehouse (977 State Rd.; 508-693-6633), with poetry slams, salsa-dancing sessions, and live musicincluding Wednesday open-mike nights (38 Main St.; 508-693-8555).
