Great Maui day trip. Start in Paia early and hit the Hana Hiway. Take your time and stop a lot! Grab lunch in Hana and keep on towards Kipahulu. Take a break at the Seven Sacred pools, but don't turn around and go back the way you came. Keep going AROUND THE ISLAND to Kaupo. You will be amazed at the change in scenery from rainforest to lava desert. Beautiful sweeping views from the crater edge down to the sea. The road will take you all the way around to upcountry Maui (Ulapalakua, Kula), where you can grab some dinner or drop back down the mountain to Kahalui. This is a full day trip...but totally worth it. Dont worry about the road past Kipahulu...it is never as bad as they say it is. report a problem
