Ok..done all of Maui(quite a feat, if you ask me)..?...Be SURE to get yourself to MOLOKAI !!! there are fairy boats over and then there are little planes too(best view of the island is from the air!!)... There is pure paradise all over this island; the beaches are peaceful; the drives so carefree...not a traffic light on the island! Be sure to visit Molokai Coffee Plantation in the center of the island; take their horse drawn wagon ride thru the fields; enjoy a personal tour and roasting of their beans once you return to the building. Wonderful time; great coffee! And you MUST plan to spend 4 hours down on Kalaupapa, the restored/maintained past leper colony, on the northshore. You can take plane rides from "up top" to the airstrip at Kalaupapa(seeing the marvelous cliffs!) or, one can ride a mule down the cliffs too...all to join up as a group and be escorted around the area, seeing what remains of the church that Father Damien kept; and buildings that once supported the "town of Kalaupapa"...National Park Service oversees it all, but you must contract with the local group there that actually puts on the bus tour once down there. It is truly an eyeopening experience! This is a gorgeous, untouched island that is a true must, if you go to Hawaii!!!! report a problemPosted on: August 26, 2009 at 6:23AM
YES! I have been to Molokai also and agree that it's unlike any of the other Hawaiian Islands..truly, Molokai is peace, not traffic and souvenir stands! Stop by the little postoffice and mail home a coconut ! Talk about a unique place on earth! Be sure to go down to Kalupapa from "topside" Molokai...the view is spectacular, and the history you learn there, is really special too.
