Maui, unlike Hawaii's other outer islands, doesn't roll up the sidewalks at 9 pm every night. Lahaina has the highest concentration of bars and clubs on Maui, but they're more OC than Hawaii. Join the tanned surf crowd at Jacques in Paia late on Friday nights, or slip into Willie Nelson's bar Charley's for live music (including the man himself on occasion), friendly locals, and a late-night pick-up scene. Kihei has some notable dives, but the best nightspots are totally out of the way for anyone staying in the resort areas: Casanova in Makawao, a cowboy town halfway between Paia and upcountry Kula, and Café Marc Aurel in Wailuku, where intellectuals can listen to pensive folk music while feasting on wines and fresh cheeses.
