As you might expect in a city of 20 million, the options for nightlife are endless. Bars run the gamut from concrete-floored cantinas where everyone stops and stares when you enter to glass-walled martini bars where nobody—including the bartender—seems to notice you. Head to one of the bars near the Zócalo if you'd just like to kick back with a beer. If you prefer something livelier, take a taxi to La Condesa or Polanco. Both have similar scenes, but La Condesa eclipsed Polanco in trendiness some time ago. Can't decide where to start? Begin the evening in Plaza Garibaldi, where the streets are packed with mariachi bands waiting to be hired for the evening. For about $5, you can have them play old favorites like "Guantanamera."
