The sporting options on Nevis, which include almost anything you can do in the water, on top of the water, or alongside the water, reach their peak on Oualie Beach, which has a wide expanse of sand and gentle, swimmable surf. This explains why the Oualie Beach Hotel is such a find for the sporty set. It attracts many Type A personalities, including most of the athletes who come for the triathlon each March. But if you're a Type Z—who wants to laze about in a hammock with a rum punch between fuss-free, casual meals—you'll also be happy here. The 32 rooms, clustered in gingerbread cottages, are simple and airy, with sun-bleached fabrics. Views of the sand and sea are the most notable amenities. If you're looking for solitude, though, be warned: The hotel also has live music four nights a week.
