Don't be surprised if the spirit moves you while you're dining at the Hermitage—the plantation inn is laid out in the shape of a cross. The restaurant raises its own pigs and lambs and has an herb garden, all presided over by Maureen Lupinacci, an American who moved here with her husband, Richard, in the seventies. Maureen changes the menu nightly, but the dishes are always polished, due to the magic of renowned chef Lovey Body, who hails from the nearby village of Chicken Stone. A typical dinner might begin with prosciutto and mango, move on to marinated shrimp with black-bean cakes, and end with a delicious chocolate bombe.
