Concierge.com's insider take:
Located in a Beaux Arts building two blocks from the French Quarter, the International House is a property that balances modernity with a feeling of place. The 117 rooms are done in a subduedsome might say blandcolor scheme of beige, gray, and black, with warm lighting and contemporary furnishings. But subtle decorative details anchor the aesthetic in New Orleans. The wrought-iron latticework on the reception desk echoes the city's trademark balconies; antique silver mirrors reflect candlelight to create an intimate mood. Nifty in-room touches include black-and-white photos of jazz greats and a New Orleans CD collection. The split-level lobby bar, Loa, is awash in natural light during the day and romantically dim after sunset. Traveling hipsters and the local martini mob relax to a trip-hop sound track, while businessmen balance cocktails on their laptops (there's free WiFi service throughout the hotel).
