My preferred stay in Manhattan

Perfectly located on 6th and Grand, The James lies in SoHo, cool boutique territory, plus eclectic shops and top restaurants. Taxi’s are plentiful on 6th when travelling uptown. Great views from the rooftop terrace and bar and a very helpful and proactive staff on hand. The James remains one of my top ten boutique hotels globally. Be aware, I have experienced inconsistency as regards the cleaning of the rooms. Request the cleaner you are happy with. Tip: Go for a King Corner Room, large by Manhattan standards with floor to ceiling windows on both sides and great vistas over Manhattan; very comfortable bed plus pillow menu and a large bathroom with heated floor. An added plus is a breakfast selection from the David Burke Kitchen included in the room rate. When dining, try Barolo on West Broadway for excellent Linguini alle Vongele; Kelley and Ping on Greene Street for top Asian Fusion and La Sirène on Varrick for authentic French Bistro style. For something special, cross the Brooklyn Bridge to The River Café. Here, I could not fault the appetisers. However, though perfectly prepared and presented I felt the Kitchen was holding back somewhat with the entrees. I suggest ordering more than one appetiser or the degustation menu (tasting selection) for flavour excitement. Excellent wine selection. Book early to request a window seat with brilliant views back to east side Manhattan.
