Always take a taxi in New York City. report a problemPosted on: September 01, 2009 at 6:46PM
As someone born and raised here (NYC), raised my kids here, etc. and having lived here most of my life, I rarely take taxis. The drivers often do NOT know where you want to go, particularly outside of Manhattan, and drive recklessly to give the impression you are speeding to your destination. You are putting your life in the hands of an unknown driver - & I've been in 2 accidents w/ cabs, one where I was in a cab stopped at a red light and another taxi slammed into us. The subways are reliable, well-patrolled and run 24/7. Buses follow designated routes - and you see more of the city that way. You also meet more New Yorkers on public transportation - which is part of the magic.
