Ellis Island, New York City

This is a great historical sight and a must-see if you are planning on taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Most of the ferry lines stop first at the Statue, second at Ellis Island, and then drop you back off at the harbor.
Ellis Island gives you a glimpse of the long and challenging journeys people made in order to live in America. The immigrants who came through the Island helped form our nation.
The exhibits and displays in all of the rooms were informative and give you a good idea of the immigration process at the time. If you're lucky enough to catch a tour guide's presentation, it's well worth it.
