Vermonters easily shed their Birkenstock- and flannel-wearing reputation in the cute-chic town of Manchester, where the streets are lined with designer outlets, including Betsey Johnson (58 Depot St.; 802-366-1030), Giorgio Armani (Manchester Square; 802-362-1166), and Brooks Brothers (460 Depot St.; 802-362-7044). All told, there are more than 30 boutiques offering steep discounts, most a notch above those in typical discount megamalls. The traffic on Depot Street, especially on summer days, can be tiresome: Plan to walk, not drive, from one end to the other, and wind down by browsing through the Northshire Bookstore (4869 Main St.; 802-362-2200; www.northshire.com).
Open Mondays through Saturdays 10 am to 7 pm, Sundays 10 am to 6 pm.
