Acapulco + the Coast hotels
Hotels of every description are clustered around the secluded beaches and bays of Mexico's Pacific Coast. Some, like the restored grand resorts in Acapulco, have been around since the region's heyday in the 1960s; others are luxurious, new high-end chains; and still others, like those around Zihuatanejo, are small, exclusive boutiques that can make you feel like a celebrity (or at least put you in spotting distance of one). Lately there's been a spate of rustic-chic surf camps and eco-lodges popping up around Puerto Vallarta. Rumors of an Acapulco renaissance abound, fueled by the planned opening of a new Las Brisas hotel in late 2008 by Grupo Habita, creators of Mexico City's sexy Condesa DF and Playa del Carmen's Básico.
