El Paseo is the desert's take on Rodeo Drive, a posh stretch of boutiques, galleries and cafés that lies just 12 miles outside of Palm Springs in the second-home sprawl of Palm Desert. If the 300 stores take their toll, you can hop on a tram which transports worn-out shoppers along the mile-long expanse. Between Larkspur Lane and San Pablo Avenue you'll find The Gardens on El Paseo, a two-story outdoor mall anchored by money-magnets Saks Fifth Avenue and Tiffany & Co. There are also plenty of independent boutiques for the oversized sunglasses set. Shoe hounds in the market for Stuart Weitzman, Cole Haan and Donald J. Pliner designs beeline to Rangoni of Florence, while Troy is a must for those in need of Feraud gowns. Down the street there is a girly clothing boutique cum nail salon called Trio, which stocks the trendy essentials of the casual, California-cool wardrobe—James Perse tees, metallic flip-flops, and very expensive jeans.
