We had dinner in mid-August at L’Arpege. There are not enough words to describe what a delightful experience it has been. We have eaten at various three-starred Restaurants in Paris and elsewhere and by far the overall experience at L’Arpege outshines everything else. I have to admit to be very partial to vegetables, not a vegetarian though, and the vegetables do reign supreme here. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by Helen and her very friendly staff, one feels immediately very welcome and relaxed. There is not a hint of stuffy or condescending attitude, on the contrary, one feels very appreciated and at ease. Every dish is prepared to perfection, vegetables and more vegetables. Just like the name implies, note after note in a perfect harmony. If we found a fault it is that the wine steward didn’t seem to have it altogether. We found it charming, it just adds to the unpretentious sophistication of the whole experience. With food like that wine is really secondary.
