Tour Group or On Your Own?

My wife and I love to venture into new territory on our own, and had never taken a group tour. But on impulse, we signed up for a tour of Peru through Latin America 4 Less. It included Cuzco, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. We could not have been more pleased, because while the tour operator made sure we got from place to place, we had the majority of time to explore on our own. We had enormously high expectations of Machu Picchu, and it completely exceeded them. The word "magical" is overused, but that's the best description. It sits high in the clouds, between majestic peaks, and it is absolutely dazzling. We took the train there from Cuzco, and stayed overnight in Aguas Calientes - which gave us one full afternoon and one full morning at Machu Picchu. We could easily have spent another day there without being bored.
