Yes, nightlife in Thailand can be sleazy, but in small, isolated pockets. Patong Beach in Phuket certainly broadcasts its share: Walk along the main thoroughfare and you'll see dozens of girly bars, "massage" parlors, and guys hawking magnificently shiny suits at "special-price-just-for-you." Still, it's a mostly nonthreatening if cacophonous Sin City, and it's possible to step back and just watch the madness. One good perch is the Savoey Seafood Restaurant, with a street-side bar and ringside seat to all the colors and sounds. Anyplace with eight ways of serving squid can't be all bad (Tel: 66-76-341-170).
