From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
Steps from the Rynek Glowny, the Old Town's magnificent medieval square, the 53-room Stary Hotel was created from a fifteenth-century town house, and it successfully mixes a historic restoration with modern design. The atrium-ceilinged lobby and restaurant are furnished with cushy black and red leather chairs and couches, and a dramatic indoor pool has been fitted between the vaulted brick arches of its basement. Upstairs, you have a choice between romantic rooms that retain the original wall frescoes, and racy new Euro urban rooms with exposed cement ceilings, cocoa-colored walls, and built-in wooden furniture. All rooms have heated floors and Jacuzzi tubs, and a beautiful rooftop terrace serves drinks in good weather. The service shines: Even at very early checkout hours, staff will prepare complimentary breakfast of juice, yogurt, a bacon-and-egg sandwich, mineral water, and fruit.

Which room to book: Fifth-floor doubles like Nos. 501, 502, and 503 have splendid views of Rynek Glowny.
