The 99-room Mandarin Oriental occupies a renovated and expanded fourteenth-century monastery in Malá Strana, the quarter at the foot of Prague Castle, and if this loveliest of Prague's neighborhoods swarms with tourists by day, it's pleasantly quiet at night. The hotel's spacious rooms, many of which have high vaulted ceilings, come with oak parquet, leather-and-wenge wood entertainment armoires, and decors with rich Asian touches. Upon your arrival, the gracious staff spell out the hotel's many amenities, including the city's first spa, in a former Gothic chapel, and the best hotel gym in town. A talented Aussie chef doing a contemporary Asian menu has made Essensia, its restaurant, a local sensation.
