This 1949 institution just outside Old San Juan came off an extensive $60 million renovation only a few years ago. The 814 rooms were completely overhauled; the open-air reception area was given a new, contemporary flair, and a comprehensive Olas Spa and Fitness Center was added. This mostly business-oriented hotel (meeting rooms, secretarial services, etc.) also has shorefront swimming pools and access to a secluded beach. It's just outside of Condado, close to Old San Juan, and is divided into three different wings, each offering similarly-sized-and-styled rooms (the water-facing wing has the best views). As part of the update, the Caribe Hilton also added a Starbucks and a Morton's of Chicago, two brands that by now qualify as standard modern conveniences.
